Closing the Gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

The Coalition of Peaks is a representative body that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities in Australia by working with government bodies. The Coalition of Peaks is made up of members from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and represents many community-controlled peak organisations. Together, the members work with all levels of government on the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

The National Agreement on Closing the Gap (the Agreement) outlines what all levels of government can do to improve life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Additionally, the Agreement details how all governments will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to have the same access to services as other Australians.

We worked with the Coalition of Peaks to develop an Easy Read guide to the Agreement. Our editorial and design teams worked hard to simplify the complex content, while being respectful of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander audience.

We also tested this document with in-house document testers and a focus group. This allowed us to gain more insight into the target audience’s needs. Their feedback guided us to enhance our culturally sensitive design, images and language while maintaining clear communication.

You can read the guide on the Coalition of Peaks website.
